WONDERFUL Men's '30s Era Bulova Dress Wristwatch with Box - SERVICED
If you look at movie studio stills from the 'Golden Age' of Hollywood, you know, the black and white photographs of the 'Titans' of film, chances are they'll be holding a martini or smoking a cigarette or checking their watch as if they’re about to catch a train. Whatever their activity, if you look closely at their wrist, they'll be wearing a great looking Deco-era timepiece.
This was an era of such staggering class it will never, ever be imitated, never duplicated. The same thing can be said for the watches produced during this era. Sadly, no matter how much money you spend on a modern watch, you won't be able to duplicate the styling, shape or engineering of the old classic timepieces. New watches are like remakes of classic films: They're never as good as the originals.
Joseph Bulova got quite a jump on the Deco era: In 1875, he set off on the bold experiment of a wholesale jewelry business devoted to Avant Garde pieces. During the '20s, realizing the potential of the newly popularized 'wristlet,' watch, he began to use his jewelry expertise to make wristwatches. His factories in Switzerland would go on to produce millions of movements for watches, then ship them to the states where each watch would be hand-assembled and tested. He employed dozens of well-known jewelry designers, each charged with making his watches unique and irresistible. One can look at the early Bulova timepieces and see the clear influence of Joseph Bulova the jeweler and craftsman.
How could one possibly overlook the genius of Joseph Bulova! Consider this magnificent Deco-Era timepiece: creme dial with stylized yellow gold-tone numerals, inner minutes track and matching sub-seconds register, hinged chrome case with rococo chase-work around the bezel and lugs. The style of the case is evocative of curtains being drawn at the Bijou. It's quintessentially period, charming and enviable, and, at 36mm by 25mm, the perfect size for either sex.
We've taken the liberty of completely cleaning, oiling and calibrating its movement so that the watch keeps time as intended. We're pleased to offer this work of wrist art in a period burgundy velvet 'Bulova' presentation box.
